Jonathan Li

Join us on Doing Business in China as we speak to Jonathan Li. Mr Li holds two businesses in China - JustGrapes, a Shanghai based wine retail chain and Asentio Design, a personal experience design company in Shanghai and Hong Kong. During this interview, Li sheds light on some of Asentio's unique design concepts and how these are harmonized into the ambience and environment of the JustGrapes stores. Mr Li describes Asentio's aim as 'designing experiences' and illustrates how this holds true in both presenting and categorizing a selection of wines. Jonathan Li has been in China for eight years and is a partner of Shanghai based wine retail shop, JustGrapes. JustGrapes has several locations in Shanghai and is devoted to making wine more accessible to the Chinese mass market by embracing a formula of service based on client education.
Jonathan Li is also a managing partner of Asentio Design, a personal experience design company in Shanghai and Hong Kong. Asentio's services include product design, market design and product research. At Asentio, Li heads the design strategy and interaction design teams and builds on his extensive design experience in mobile phone technology.
Previously, Mr Li responsible for designing the user interface for the world's first Linux smart phone as Director of Interaction Design at company E28 Limited and the world's first Chinese handwriting recognition phone for Motorola.
Li's past positions also include UI Designer at Philips Consumer Communications and UI Designer at Lucent. Li earned a BS, Electrical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1993. Jonathan is also a graduate of Junius H Rose, MIT and Tufts.
